Mount View Court

Mount View Court

New houses with a contemporary Victorian appeal.

Scheme
4 x 3 storey houses

Location
Haringey

Mount View Court, just off St Margaret’s Way in Haringey, will be home to four new 3-storey houses with a contemporary yet contextual appeal.

The existing streetscape, which is lined with traditional Edwardian housing, provides the context for the modern infill. The key principles of the neighbouring Edwardian housing have been replicated so that the scheme sits comfortably within its context while using a contemporary styling.

Pinchin Architects, working in conjunction with Haringey Council, redeveloped the site for use as Local Authority housing, comprising of 4-bedroom houses suitable for up to 6 people. The site itself has underused garages and storage units on it and is a prime site for an urban residential infill project within a sustainable area of London.

The site plan follows the arrangement of existing properties on St Margaret’s Ave, with two pairs of terraced dwellings. Front doors are located alongside each other in a similar arrangement to adjacent houses. The four individual plots include private amenity space to the front and rear, with a mix of hard and soft landscaped areas to reduce maintenance requirements.

The development seeks to minimise the impact on neighbouring buildings. The units respond to the design of the adjacent houses by incorporating similar window arrangements and gabled front elevations. The main material proposed will be a red multi-brick, in keeping with the character of the surrounding area, with dark zinc roofs and matching window frames to give the scheme a contemporary aesthetic.
